The place of rocks...

Ballyburren, translated from Irish literally means place of rocks. This is definitely a good description of our 18 acre centre north of the Burren nature habitat and lough. Rocky outcrops, undulating terrain with 5,000 planted trees and restored ponds with many streams traversed by nine bridges. Our beautiful surroundings make any outdoor escape a memorable one.

Ballyburren Outdoor Escapes as a concept, started in 2019 with a planning submission that got the attention of the Belfast Telegraph and Belfast Live newspapers. Landscaping work commenced early 2019 to restore overgrown ponds. A 1.4km pathway around the lands also started and completed three years later with over 400 tonnes of stones used. Over 4,000 trees were planted in 2002 with a further 1,000 planted in recent years with the help of the small woodland grant. Nature and the environment is a vital part of who we are and we look forward to you enjoying our special surroundings too.

We only accept bookings made through our website. Please select your activity and click on the book now button.

We have made every effort possible for reduced mobility visitors, however there are some steep areas of our pathway that will require extra care. We have ramp access to disabled toilets and all our main bridges are wheelchair friendly. We also have two extra wide disabled parking bays in the main car park.

Our rangers are highly professional, friendly and will do their very best to make your chosen activity the very best it can be. All our rangers are fully first aid trained.

Our amazing coffee trailer, located on an island, caters for hot and cold drinks, along with tray bakes and cakes. Other items will be added to the menu. We also offer reservable picnic tables for luxury picnic hampers that are supplied by us. Bringing your own picnic is prohibited.ย

The environment and protecting it is important to us. We try everything we can to be more sustainable. We reduce our carbon footprint with our unique solar tracking systems that produce 40% more energy than conventional systems, we have planted over 5,000 trees, a number of areas and fields are meadowed, our supplies are sourced locally as much as possible, our coffee cups and other items are biodegradable or made from recycled materials, and we recycle as much as possible from our waste bins.
